Chancepedia is a plain-language reference for games of chance. We explain how games work, what each bet really costs, and where to find help when gambling stops being fun.
Why we exist
Most writing about gambling is written to sell you something. It hides the cost of a game behind excitement, or points you to a betting site. We wanted a place that does the opposite: explains the rules, shows the numbers and lets you decide for yourself. Every game has a price, and we show you what it is.
What you will find here
- Rules and how-to-play guides for card games, casino games, dice, lotteries and games from around the world, including family and festival games.
- Explanations of betting: how odds are set, what each bet type costs and why the house edge matters.
- Free calculators, trainers and play-money games that run in your browser.
- A glossary of plain definitions for gambling and betting terms.
- Safety and law guides, and a Get help page with helplines by country.
Who writes Chancepedia
Chancepedia is written and edited by the Chancepedia editorial team. The team works with industry veterans, subject experts and enthusiastic amateurs, so a post about a card game can come from someone who plays it every week, and a post about odds can be checked by someone who works with probability. Posts on law and safety go through an extra review step before they are published. You can read exactly how we work on our Editorial standards page.
What we will never do
- Link to betting sites or casinos, or take payment from them.
- Run real-money games or take bets.
- Promise that any system, strategy or tip will make you win.
- Collect your results or what you type into our tools. They stay in your browser.
